About the Department
Library and Information Science (LIS) examines the theories and practices related to the collection, organization, preservation, and effective use of information across diverse domains. In the contemporary information society, the rapid expansion of information volume, increasing specialization, and diversification of formats have intensified the need for professionals capable of systematically managing information resources. In response to these developments, the Department of Library and Information Science aims to educate librarians and teacher-librarians with strong theoretical foundations and practical competencies. The curriculum emphasizes knowledge organization, information processing, information retrieval, and user services, alongside the development of professional skills and leadership required in practice. The program is designed to enhance employability and professional readiness. It places particular emphasis on core subject areas relevant to national examinations for librarian and teacher-librarian positions, including knowledge organization and information services. In addition, it addresses emerging areas such as children’s and young adult services, school libraries, and information science. Students engage in hands-on training through well-equipped laboratories, where theoretical knowledge is applied to practical tasks in information processing and retrieval.
