The Ph. D. in Library and Information Science is an academic research degree that focuses on preparing individuals who wish to make significant scholarly contributions. It is intended for individuals with a completed master's degree or individuals who will have completed a master degree before starting the Ph.D. program. Many new professional opportunities are possible for individuals who hold Ph.D.'s in LIS.
For international students, the general requirements are as follows:
-Minimum 36 total credit hours of course work (typically completed in 4 semesters or 2 years when enrolled as a full-time student)
-Grade of 80 points - equivalent to a letter grade 'B'
-Minimum level 4 on Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) exam. For Korean nationals, minimum score of 70 points on the foreign language test exam administered by Keimyung University
-Minimum score of 70 points on the four subject areas of the comprehensive written exam
-Completion of two Korean liberal arts courses (applicable only to international students who do not score higher than TOPIK 4)
-TOPIK 4 or higher (applicable only to international students)
-Doctoral dissertation approved by dissertation examiners
Please note that additional credit hours beyond regular course work are not required in order to complete a Ph.D. dissertation.
